A Rare Thing!

It's a rare thing that I post 2 entries in a row but it was bound to happen one day and today is the DAY!
I've recently decided to learn more about digital scrapbooking and use my evolving computer skills and as a result, came up with a sweet holiday LO of Chris and I from my annual Holiday Party at the apartment.

The party was a good time, we had a few friends, great food and enough wine and beer to go around! I love the holidays, you can never get enough of that warm fuzzy feeling of love and good company.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Holiday Spirit!

I know I'm a little late, but I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and will also have a Happy New Year!

It's been a VERY hectic holiday season for me, but with all my interest in scrapbooking and paper crafting, I thought I would try to personalize my contributions to this festive season. Unfortunately I didn't start to prepare far enough in advance this year (which I hope won't happen next year) but atleast I got a little taste for making my own Christmas creations!

I wanted to give everyone that I work closely with a little something to let them know that I was thinking of them, but didn't have much money to spend. Fortunately for me, one day I read a blog entry by Danielle Flanders at http://danielleflanders.blogspot.com/ called "Cookies-N-Cream" in her November entries and it inspired me to try and come up with my version of a festive holiday cookie present. She has a wonderful blog with great ideas that are so inspiring and unique (definitely stop in there if you haven't yet!). So here is my little take on the idea...
This is a cookie holder made with bristol board and covered with Christmas patterned paper. Inside the cookies are tucked into a festive holiday baggie and stapled to the back side of the holder. I made a variety of sugar cookies, oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip. They were the perfect treat for a workday snack!
I also successfully made some Christmas cards to send to family members. I used the Falala scrapbook pad by Making Memories to create and embellish the cards and they came out really nice but the most important part is that I had a lot of fun making them! Take a look...

A New Tradition...

Well I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families...giving thanks, sharing good stories, laughter and lots of yummy food!! I've come to learn over the years that Thanksgiving is a very significant Holiday, not for anything materialistic, but simply for the gathering of family and friends to enjoy a good meal in peace and happiness atleast once throughout the year. Often we get caught up in life and everything we all have to do, but we never stop and take the time to think about what's most important to us or why we do what we do everyday. I enjoy family and I love sharing those special moments, which is why Thanksgiving has become the most important holiday for me.

This Thanksgiving I had the pleasure of being in the company of my fiance's family. It was great...we had very good food and lots of fun ( I even had the chance to get a little dancing in...which is always nice!) I'm thankful for the invitation to spend this holiday with them and I'm thankful for the time well spent. I of course missed my own family very much, but I'm looking forward to this new tradition of alternating the holidays between both families, it adds a little extra excitement and a whole other culture into the mix!
Take a look at just a couple pictures I took from this past long weekend. Enjoy!

Sweet Baby Boy

Look at that cute little bundle of joy! His name is Josiah and he's my little 2nd cousin! I recently came across these adorable pictures of him and couldn't resist scrapping them! I love the one with him sleeping...he looks so innocent and peaceful! What a life! :-)

I incorporated a little handmade creativity for this LO. I added some color with my set of prisma color pastels which add a soft touch and also created the round embellishment out of marker paper that I painted with watercolor and embellished with some die cuts from the animal crackers kit.

I also used the letter patterned paper from the "Jack" collection as a border and decorative frame then tacked on some of the kits' chip board letters for the title with some brown thread. The pictures on the right are also stitched on by hand creating a simple border.

This little man is such a happy baby and I'm happy to have captured his smile forever!

Baby Love

I recently bought a book by Making Memories called Baby Love moments and memories. This book was a great buy! It was $20 at Michael's and filled with lots of ideas for baby gifts, cards, announcements, scrapbooking and keepsakes! The design of the book is adorable and it made my mind start turning with all the possibilities for cute baby keepsakes of all types!! I find myself flipping through it constantly! I even bring it to work with me, so that I can glance at it whenever I have a chance! I definitely recommend it if you have any baby projects in the works...(among the hundreds of other projects we all have started, but are not quite close to being finished).
Take a look at a couple of cards I was inspired to make that actually coordinate back to baby scraframes I had already made!

*The majority of the papers and embellishments used on the above projects are from the Animal Crackers collection by Making Memories.*

25th Hour!

Heather's birthday gift

Today is my roommate Heather's 25th birthday and a few of us went out to celebrate last night! We went to a spanish resturaunt and lounge called Sabor (which is Heather and her boyfriend Ramon's favorite place). They are both into taking salsa lessons together and at Sabor they always get the chance to try out their new moves! So Heather's birthday wish was to have her closest friends share in this experience too! The place was PACKED last night, but the music was great and we were eventually able to get our own table upstairs where there was another (not so crowded) dance floor. It was definitely a fun night and I got a chance to shake my hips a little, which is ALWAYS a plus in my book!

A Thoughtful Birthday Momento

I've been getting more and more into these scrapframes lately, and I recently made one for a friend at work. Her mother's 65th birthday is coming up next month and she asked me to make a custom frame that she could give to her as a gift. This frame is very sophisticated, elegant and perfect for preserving those precious birthday memories. Take a look and let me know what you think!

Baby Keepsake

Hey there!

I've recently made a scrapframe for my neighbor downstairs. She's 9 months pregnant and about to have a little baby boy. The frame is now hanging in the new nursery for Baby "O" and looks so cute, it adds just the right amount of "little boy blue" to the wall! Take a look...

Pink & Brown Invitation

So today I thought I would post an image of my engagement party invitation that I designed back in June. I chose pink and brown because they are the colors for our wedding next year. I like the stripe pattern mixed with the floral design, they work well together creating a fun yet sophisticated invite!

Our Engagement Party! 8/9/08

Last Saturday was our engagement party and it was really nice! Everyone had a good time, there was lots of food, fun and festivities!! We made it a casual Luau BBQ at my parents home in Massachusetts. The weather was great, the temp was in the high 70's which wasn't too hot or too cold, it was just right for the occasion! Both sides of our families were able to meet for the first time, which was really exciting! I was a little nervous hoping that everything would go off without a hitch and it did! We even had some horse rides going on to entertain the little ones thanks to my parents' wonderful neighbors. I couldn't have wished for a better day, although I do wish I had more time to enjoy the moment and sit and talk with everyone but I'm sure there will be more of that to come in the next year. So take a look at some of the pics I was able to salvage from my camera (unfortunately lots of the photos that were taken are pretty blurry...I think my camera was on the wrong setting most of the time! Uuuugghh!)

A New Creation!

I recently came across a decorative frame which sparked my interest in making Scrapframes! I think the idea of a scrapframe is great...it's essentially a scrapbook page that becomes part of your home decor! Why not create a masterpiece (which would ordinarily be found in an album...hidden on your bookshelf) and take it to the wall to share with everyone who enters your home?! I love this idea...and thought I would give it my own little spin! Here is my first official scrapframe that I made for a co-worker who just got married. The title is; Something Old Something New and there is a poem that reads-

A Lasting Marriage Is Based On Many Things

A close relationship is based on friendship.

A caring relationship is based on sharing and understanding.

A romantic relationship is based on giving freely and on the ability to receive gratefully and graciously.
An intimate relationship is based on openness and honesty.

An affectionate relationship is based on patience and acceptance.

A secure relationship is based not on promises, but rather on trust, respect, faithfulness and the ability to forgive.
A lasting marriage is based on all of these bound together by love.
-Author Unknown

These frames are great...you can make them your own and personalize them for any occasion/person! I know the picture does no justice for this piece, but for my first scrapframe...I must say, it came out pretty darn good! Enjoy!
Until next time...

New Beginnings

Hi!! Welcome to my blog!

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Wahkuna. I'm an apparel designer by day and scrapbook artist by night! I love all things creative and inspiring!

I'm also engaged to the most wonderful man in the world! His name is Christian and he's a U.S. Marine. Our wedding is scheduled for August 1, 2009 and we are both very excited for our big day!!

Life is so unpredictable and you can never know what to expect! I definately didn't expect to experience everything I have this past year and 1/2. In this time period I have met the love of my life, together we survived a deployment in Iraq and are now on our way to building the foundation for our future! So...I decided that starting a blog to document our journey through the wedding planning process while also displaying some of my favorite finds and creative work, would be a great way to capture memories for years to come and hopefully these posts will be inspiring to some of you too!

During the past few years I've realized that this world is full of creative inspiration if you just take the time to live life and enjoy everything along the way! It's also important to keep your camera on you at all times, so you are guaranteed to catch all of those important moments, whether big or small and never miss a thing! Stay tuned...

Chao!
